Alternative Nurse

Hello!!

If you are reading this you will see this is my first blog post on this site. However, I have blogged some in the past on another sites. I would like to Take a minute to introduce myself.

But first I will say that this blog will bring information on holistic care, traditional care, DIY self care, and much more.

My name is Kiara Poloney. I entitled this blog alternative nurse because I'm a massage therapist and registered nurse. I believe there is a balance between alternative medicine and what I call standard medicine. For instance, I believe there is a place for thing such as essential oils but if you are having a myocardial infarct (heart attack) then you need the life saving measures of a hospital, specifically the local emergency department.

There are ways to care for a headache at home, as long as you know your body well enough, that have a more holistic approach. Such as massaging a pressure point, the head and neck, or the feet. However, as I stated if you believe you are experiencing a more life threatening event such as a stroke, than your local hospital that is equipped to handle a stroke is the place to be.

I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2004. I graduated from the Flint school of Therapeutic Massage, in Flint, Michigan. I have been practicing massage in the state of Georgia since 2005. I'm also an approved provider for Massage Therapy continuing education units (CEUs) through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). Specifically I approved to teach CEUs in the states of Georgia and Florida, and any states that recognizes NCBTMB CEUs.

I have been a registered nurse since 2011. I graduated with my bachelors degree from a local university, Brenau University. I hold a compact license which allows me to practice nursing in states that participate in the compact licensing agreement. I have primarily worked as an emergency room nurse, been part of the trauma team at one time, and generally love taking care of others. Since 2014 I have been working part time as an adjunct at a local university in the nursing department.

One day I would love to complete my degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner-Masters in nursing so that I can merge my passion for caring for others with a more holistic approach.

I'm a mommy of almost 4 boys (currently pregnant)

and have been happily married for 18 years.

Thank you for you time. Until next time!!

Your alternative nurse
